James Templeton

ARTIST TALK

SATURDAY 6/12/21 1-2PM

James Templeton will be giving an artist talk over his residency experience and submission piece “In Time.”

James is a multimedia artist and a videographer by trade. He has produced extensive installation work and stays very active in various local art scenes. Most notably, he has been a 3 time installation participant and music performer in Day For Night.

Inspired by the works of Steven Wolfram’s work with cellular automata, “In Time” is the study and representation of Music (number over time), Geometry and Arithmetic. A simple pattern or function is called and the results are rendered in the propagation and interference of all ripples included in computation of the function. The resulting pattern can then be viewed, not as a sequence of individual frames over time ( like a movie ) but a sequence of individual frames extruded in space and lofted to produce a three dimensional “capsule” of the function over time.
